Be Skinclusive: Why Treating More Diverse Patient Skin Types Is Good Business

Despite being some of the most sought-after aesthetic treatments, laser skincare treatments have historically had limitations.

Many laser technologies, because they work by targeting areas of contrast in skin color, historically were not considered safe for darker skin types. Clinicians could treat light skin tones effectively but when it came to those with more pigmentation, there could be a much higher risk of side effects like hyperpigmentation or added discomfort for the same (or in some cases, less effective) aesthetic results.

But as the world’s population becomes more and more mixed race, demand for solutions that can treat the widest range of skin types will grow exponentially and those businesses that can accommodate darker skin types will lapse those that can not.

Improvements have been made in many energy-based technology categories, but many newer aesthetic laser options that boast safety across skin types often do so at the expense of efficacy.  Doctors and laser experts have been left managing the trade-off between safety, comfort, and efficacy.

Until now.

Cartessa Aesthetics, a leading distributor of some of the world’s best and most effective laser devices, looks for those technologies that can offer the best possible results for the greatest number of patients.

Cartessa understands that inclusivity in your aesthetic offerings means not having to deny treating patients, and in turn, improving your client’s satisfaction, loyalty, and ultimately, your return on investment. Among these versatile technologies are the game-changer in laser hair removal, Motus AZ+; innovative skin resurfacing treatments including CoolPeel, FUSION, and Sultra; and impressive platform powerhouses such as Quanta Chrome and Discovery Pico.

“Being able to offer our customers aesthetic devices that help them broaden their patient base is something we are passionate about. People of all skin types and tones should have access to great skincare, and we’re happy to make that a reality for so many doctors and aesthetic practice owners across the U.S. and Canada,” said Gabe Lubin, Founder and CEO of Cartessa Aesthetics.

The Skinclusive™ line-up

Motus AZ+

Building on the success of its predecessors, the Motus AX/AY platforms, Cartessa’s Motus AZ+ system is the catalyst of the Skinclusive initiative. This system from DEKA, the Italian aesthetic laser manufacturer, integrates the gold standard Alexandrite (755nm) and Nd:YAG (1064nm) wavelengths, along with the exclusive Moveo delivery technology. Moveo technology delivers pain-free hair removal, overcoming the traditional limitations of the Alexandrite 755nm laser. It uses simple, continuous movements over a small area, gradually delivering a precise dosage of energy to the targeted tissue without damaging the surrounding skin. The cooled sapphire tip on the Motus AZ+ ensures treatments are safe and completely comfortable for the patient.

Motus AZ+ takes the renowned Moveo technology to new heights by expanding its capabilities beyond pain-free hair removal. Now with Moveo delivery for both the 755nm and 1064nm wavelengths, the Motus AZ+ addresses various dermatological concerns, including pigmented lesions, skin revitalization, and diffuse vascular lesions, as well as the combination treatment, MoveoGlo.

A revolutionary aspect of the Motus AZ+ is its Skinclusive technology, allowing practitioners to offer Alexandrite laser hair removal to patients of all skin tones, from light to dark. This eliminates the need to settle for Nd:YAG or diode lasers for individuals with darker skin, expanding the potential patient base and satisfaction.

"The introduction of Motus AZ+ will not only keep existing clients coming back, but it will also attract substantial new business," says Dr. Leslie Apgar, owner, and medical director of PuraVida MedSpa and Cosmetic Laser Center. Motus has also garnered recognition from leading publications such as Cosmopolitan, Men's Health, and Elle magazine for its revolutionary pain-free laser hair removal treatments and groundbreaking approach to inclusive skincare solutions.

Skin Resurfacing Treatments

Cartessa provides a diverse array of skin resurfacing treatments designed to cater to all skin types. Among their offerings, CoolPeel, Sultra, and FUSION are solutions that deliver exceptional results with no-downtime options for all skin types.

CoolPeel is an award-winning treatment that reduces the appearance of fine lines, sun damage, and pores, while also improving skin texture. It features high-peak-power H-Pulse and delivers a no-downtime, superficial fractional CO2 ablative treatment with minimal damage to surrounding tissue and without the side effects seen with traditional methods. CoolPeel originated on the Tetra CO2, and is also available on the HELIX.

The Helix skin resurfacing platform includes a non-ablative 1570nm fractional laser which gently denatures tissue by targeting water and stimulating thermal collagen. The Sultra treatment leaves behind a smooth, youthful complexion.

The FUSION treatment, true to its name, blends CO2 and 1570nm wavelengths to maximize outcomes. By mixing both fractional ablative and non-ablative energy in single-scan options, FUSION vaporizes and coagulates tissues for enhanced results and minimized healing time. The FUSION can be delivered with the CoolPeel’s H-pulse or deeper pulse shapes with non-ablative energy in variable mixed modes and depths for exceptionally customized skin resurfacing.

Quanta Chrome

Quanta System has a reputation for building state-of-the-art laser systems for use in over 130 countries across the globe. From space exploration to restoring the Sistine Chapel, Quanta’s devices are unlike anything else—which is precisely why we love it.

The Chrome Lase Station, developed by Quanta System Aesthetic Division and exclusively distributed in the U.S. by Cartessa Aesthetics, stands out as a unique and versatile multiwavelength platform and a Skinclusive favorite. The Chrome Lase Station’s Skinclusive NanoFrax photoacoustic effect accommodates both 1064nm and 532nm true laser wavelengths. The non-ablative fractional laser leaves gaps in between treated and untreated tissue and these “islands of normal skin” allow for quicker healing process, and leave the stratum corneum, top layer of skin, intact. Benefits are both immediate and long-term clinical results, and can be used on all skin types, including Fitzpatrick Skin Types I to VI. Additionally, it features long-pulse photothermal, four standard handpieces, and optional Erbium and IPL add-ons, consolidating a comprehensive set of capabilities in one sleek device.
